Federal Lead Resources
- U.S. EPA — Lead-Based Paint Laws & Regulations — Probably the best overall federal regulatory link. It covers the federal lead-based paint framework under TSCA and 40 CFR Part 745, including inspections, abatement, RRP, disclosure, and residential lead hazard standards.
- U.S. EPA — Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule — Important for homeowners, contractors, property managers, and remodelers working in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities. It explains certification and lead-safe work-practice requirements.
- U.S. EPA — Steps to Lead-Safe Renovation, Repair and Painting — A particularly good homeowner-facing resource. EPA updated this guidance in March 2026.
- OSHA — Lead Overview — OSHA's main federal occupational lead page, covering workplace exposure, health effects, and applicable standards.
- OSHA — 29 CFR 1926.62, Lead in Construction — The actual federal construction standard for occupational lead exposure. It applies to construction work where employees may be exposed to lead, including demolition, renovation, paint removal and related activities.
California Lead Resources
- CAL/OSHA — Occupational Lead Exposure Prevention — This is the best general Cal/OSHA lead resource to link. It explains California's occupational lead standards and provides guidance for employers and workers. California's updated lead standards became effective January 1, 2025.
- Cal/OSHA — Lead Exposure Prevention in Construction — Very relevant for contractors and construction clients. It specifically addresses California's lead requirements for construction activities.
- California Title 8 §1532.1 — Lead — This is the actual California occupational lead standard for construction and applies to demolition, renovation, repair, painting and other construction activities where employees may be exposed to lead.
- California Department of Public Health — Lead-Related Construction Program — This is probably the most important California link for your lead testing services. CDPH administers California's Lead-Related Construction certification program.
- CDPH — California Lead Statutes & Regulations — Good as a deeper regulatory resource because it provides access to California statutes and regulations concerning lead.
