Finding lead-based paint does not automatically mean every painted surface must be removed.
The appropriate response depends on the condition and location of the paint, whether children or other sensitive occupants are present, and whether the surface will be disturbed during renovation.
Intact paint may sometimes be managed in place. Deteriorated paint or renovation involving lead-containing coatings may require specialized containment, work practices, cleanup, and verification.
Lead abatement and ordinary renovation are also not necessarily the same activity and may be subject to different requirements.
MEC can identify and document lead concentrations so owners and contractors can make informed decisions about the next phase of the project.
