2. How Does Professional Mold Testing Work?

Professional mold testing typically combines a visual inspection, moisture evaluation, and targeted sampling.

Depending on conditions, MEC may collect indoor and outdoor air samples using spore-trap cassettes, surface samples using tape lifts, or both.

Air samples provide information about airborne fungal spores during the sampling period, while tape-lift samples provide information about mold growing directly on a specific surface.

Moisture meters and infrared imaging may also be used to help locate moisture patterns or areas requiring additional investigation.

Samples are submitted to a qualified laboratory, and MEC evaluates the laboratory findings together with the building conditions observed during the inspection.
